While conducting an external patrol at a prestigious Shopping Centre, Paul noticed a piece cut drainpipe containing several wires connected to a mobile phone. The device was partly hidden in an area not easily accessible to the public. Identifying the risk, Paul called the Police, evacuated the immediate area and kept the control room updated. He kept the situation under control and ensured that there wasn’t any unnecessary panic with members of the public.
Paul assisted the Police with their wider cordon whilst a controlled explosion was conducted on the device. Luckily, it was subsequently identified as a training device left accidentally by a customer using one of the centre meeting rooms for training exercises the day before.
The Police and Centre Management were full of praise for Paul, who managed the situation professionally and calmly, identifying and then containing the threat to the broader public and local businesses.
Due to his local knowledge and site expertise Paul ensured that all areas from an emergency planning point of view was covered and ensured the safety of not just his colleagues and the client, but that of the public as well.
